7 Lotus Chi Kung

Chi Kung has become one of the quiet anchors in my life. I began studying 7 Lotus Chi Kung in 2014 with my beloved teacher, Jan Zickler. Over the years, the practice became much more than something I did. It became a way of listening—to breath, movement, energy, attention, and the small messages our bodies are sending us all the time. With Jan’s encouragement, I began teaching in 2020. I am deeply grateful to carry forward something that she shared with me so generously.

What I love about 7 Lotus is its simplicity. You do not need to be particularly flexible, athletic, or experienced in meditation. You simply begin where you are.

About the 7 Lotus System of energy management

7 Lotus Chi Kung is a body-based energy practice combining posture, breathing, movement, focused attention, and stillness. The practices are designed to develop greater awareness of breath and body, grounding, relaxation, balance, and the movement of energy within us. For me, though, the experience is simpler than the description. It is a chance to come back into the body. To slow down enough to notice ourselves. To move energy that feels stuck. To find a little more ease, spaciousness, and aliveness.

The system unfolds through seven levels, each represented by a different coloured lotus. We begin with Red Lotus, working with grounding, relaxation, breath, and the body’s basic energy pathways. From there, the practice gradually deepens through Yellow, Green, Blue, Pink, Lilac, and Golden Lotus, exploring increasingly subtle relationships among movement, energy, awareness, meditation, and the body.

What Might the Practice Offer?

People come to Chi Kung for many reasons. Perhaps you would like to feel more grounded or relaxed. Perhaps you want to become more aware of your breathing and movement. Perhaps you are curious about energy, meditation, or the relationship between attention and the body. Or perhaps you have no grand reason whatsoever. You just have a little tug of curiosity. I am very fond of those.

7 Lotus practices are intended to be simple and accessible. You don’t need to arrive knowing what you are doing. That’s what the class is for. Come with comfortable clothes, a little room to move, and whatever body you happen to have that day. We’ll breathe. We’ll move. We’ll pay attention.

And we’ll see what happens.
